Someday, I will want to remember today.
It has been a good day. We had dance class, and then even got to meet Mark for lunch. Afterwards, I went on a search for a new comforter for Ashlynn at Ikea. Yes, we had just been there yesterday, but I was determined...
When we got there, I failed to re-up diapers in the bag, because both girls had already pooped, and it was going to be a fast trip. I had also forgotten wipes at home. Most of you can guess where this story is headed, based on my very rookie mistake.
Bailey was asleep in the Ergo, and Ashlynn was loving walking around like a big girl and looking at the decor. Then I noticed a distinct smell, and we headed to the bathroom to take care of business. We got there, and I discovered that A had had a blowout.
It was at that moment that I remembered I had no diapers, and no wipes. I said a quick prayer of thanks that Ikea has diapers, and went about cleaning up the mess. All of the movement of course woke Bailey up. Once Ash was clean, I discovered my next problem. She had no clothes to wear. Had we been in Target, I could have grabbed some and paid for them, but I did not think pillow covers or drapes would work in this situation.
I quickly decided to throw her on my back in the Ergo, and put my jacket on over the both of us. Thankfully, you could not tell she was not clothed. I figured I could throw Bailey in a cart and grab what I needed before we headed out. And then, Bailey started MELTING. Full on high pitched meltdown.
I very quickly deserted the buggy and headed to the car. I wish I had a picture of that sight...one kid on my shoulders and the other on my back. The looks on people's faces were priceless.
Today was a day. Not the first of its kind, and not the last. In the past, I would have left the store in tears, and vowed never to go back. Instead, I left the store texting a friend so she could laugh with me, with intentions to try again another day.
What doesn't kill you just makes you stronger, right?
