About a year ago, we decided to start planning a "post-kids, friend-cation" with some of our close friends. We decided on Puerto Rico, and counted down for months! In order to do justice to our trip, I am breaking it up into multiple posts.
Mark and I decided to go a day earlier than our friends. Our "thing" is to drive around the area of our vacation. We did this in San Francisco and LOVED the relaxation, and time to just talk. Here we are at the airport, at dark thirty in the morning!
We got our tickets using miles, and had enough miles to upgrade to 1st class! It was such a treat!
Once we arrived, we got our rental, and headed out. First we had to stop at Walmart. Where I had to purchase, return and re-purchase items. Yeesh!
We also needed a snack, so of course-we stopped at McDonalds :)
We loved our drive, and got to enjoy a beautiful sunset along the way!
That night, we found a little seafood restaurant to try. It was at said restaurant that we tasted the best coconut flan I have ever had!
The next day, we had a little over half of the day to finish driving the island. Along the way, we planned breakfast at a little B&B.
Near our B&B in Rincon, we found a lookout tower, and stopped to enjoy the view
At the B&B (The English Rose), we had the BEST breakfast! Homemade marmalade, breads and sausage. The view was equally as great!
Once we left breakfast, we checked out a lighthouse down the road. This area was the "surfer" area, and there were tons of surfers in the water.
The rest of our drive around the island was not as scenic as it was educational/interesting. Here is a picture I snapped in one of the towns we drove through.
We made it back to the airport, and turned in our rental car. We picked up our first set of friends, and went to grab appetizers at a hotel on the ocean.
Once we picked up the second set of friends, we headed to our hotel in San Juan. That night we went to SanSe, a huge festival in San Juan. Mark did his research and found the neatest area, full of crafts and food. It was a perfect combo!
We topped of the evening with Italian food, a walk, and checking out a nearby casino!
